Kingsbridge RFC U16’s 12 v Exmouth RFC U16’s 15
Every season these teams have close fought games with plenty of running
rugby and the match on Sunday was no exception. Exmouth have strong forwards
and big backs capable of switching style of play and angle of attack making
them difficult opponents to stop. The first half initiative was firmly with
the visitors and despite valiant tackling from Max Howard and the ever
dependable Louis Chapman Exmouth scored a well worked try in the corner.
Kings found it difficult to win ball in the line out but the scrums were
solid where Woodsy and the returning Dan Tucker teamed up with Harry Way to
compete well up front. The lack of territory carried on however and Exmouth
scored again before half time to justifiably establish a lead. Kings woke up
in the second half and a well worked distribution from the forwards along
the back line gave Jake Murphy a chance to score a try which he duly took.
Exmouth bounced back with a try of their own before Kingsbridge started a
final bid for victory. Haydn Lidstone came on at full back moving Sam Jones
to scrum half which helped revitalise the Kingsbridge attack. The forwards
set up a drive and Louis released Sam West to cross over. Will Throgmorton
kicked the long range conversion. Strong breaks from Olly Wotton in centre
and the rampaging back row of Sid Niblett, Jordan Perring and Lewis Dustan
kept the pressure on but in the end Kings fell just short. Harry Way was
duly named best tackler of the match and the squad will regroup for the
first Fishermans Cup match.
