On a bright and breezy Sunday morning, the Kings Under 14 blew away a competent Crediton side to storm into the quarter finals of the Devon Cup. The visitors travelled with a strong squad, and started the game brightly, dominating the early exchanges. While Crediton made good progress at the breakdown, disrupting Kingsbridge possession a number of times, they had no answer for the visitor’s pacey backs. With the game almost exclusively played in Crediton’s half, it was only a matter of time before Kingsbridge would score, and sure enough, a strong run down the wing from Joe R lead to the first try from Louis. The conversion was narrowly missed, but it wasn’t long again until the Kings doubled their lead with another try from the ‘rocket man’ Lenny. This time the conversion was good, and the Kings had a comfortable lead to build on. Callum followed with a converted try from short, before Louis and Joe T combined through the midfield, releasing Joe R to cross following a mazy run down the wing. A successful conversion followed, and the Kings were now rampant. Despite valiant defence, Crediton were not able to stem the tide, and soon Louis once again joined the Kingsbridge back-line, releasing Callum, who timed his pass nicely to see Joe R to cross again for his second score of the day. As the game continued, Kingsbridge made a number of substitutions, but the change in personnel did nothing to disrupt the flow of the game. Noah was having a strong game at full-back, threatening the Crediton defence every time he got the ball, while the Kings scrum were dominating the set piece. Louis crossed from short for the 7th try of the day, before the final act of the match saw Max recover a loose ball at full-back, then setting Joe T free to cross for this third try in two games. This was a hugely satisfying game, with all Kingsbridge players making a positive impact against a challenging home side. What stood out more though was the great team spirit that exists between the Kings boys, and it is this that is a huge credit to all those involved in managing and coaching the team.
