KINGSBRIDGE AXV 23 Points                TORQUAY 10

KINGSBRIDGE A XV welcomed Torquay to High House for their first Devon Merit Table match of the season on Saturday. Call ups to the 1st XV due to injuries and unavailability’s had seen the team reshuffled a number of times prior to the day of the match and saw the home club fielding a very youthful line up.

During the first half scoring opportunities were at a premium with play remaining tight throughout the half. Both defences were tested and remained intact until five minutes from half time as the visitors exploited space on the overlap to score the first try in the corner. The 0-5 lead lasted only a few minutes as Kingsbridge were awarded a penalty on the stroke of the interval, which was well converted by fly half Billy Burner, to leave the score at 3-5.

Early in the second half Kingsbridge took the lead as they exploited space wide out on the blind side where centre Adam Morgan crossed over for the home sides first try to make the score 8-5. Kingsbridge then went on to extend their lead further as a period of sustained pressure along the top touchline saw fly half Burner evade the final defender to race in and score wide out to take the score to 13-5.

Mid way through the second half a break in mid field from second row Max Rawlinson saw the ball kicked into open space where full back James Oggelsby ran on to win the race to the touchdown to score Kingsbridge’s third try. The successful conversion from Burner saw Kingsbridge lead 20-5.

Back came Torquay with a catch and drive move from a line out to power over for their second try with five minutes remaining before Kingsbridge elected to kick a penalty at goal, through Burner, with the final action of the game to wrap up a convincing 23-10 win.
