Kingsbridge girls undefeated at Exeter Saracens U13 Festival
Kingsbridge U13 girls squad headed to Exeter for their first ever matches playing as a team on Sunday. It was a brilliant opportunity for the girls to show everybody what they have been training for over the past few weeks.
The girls exceeded all expectations by winning their first game against Cullompton 9 tries to nil. Ruth Tucker scored first, giving the new team confidence in their ability. Sophie Seal then prevented Cullompton their chance to equalise with a fantastic tackle, before three more tries followed from Kings; Olivia Churcher and Abbi Jarvis both running over to score. Kings continued their domination with five further tries in the second half, Heidi Allen adding her name to the scoresheet in the last few minutes.
The girls then faced Crediton. Tries from Sophie, Ruth and Olivia and brave tackles from Lizzie Golding and Amy Hill made Kingsbridge look unstoppable. Crediton fought back I the second half scoring twice but another try from Ruth gave Kings a convincing win – final score 6 tries to 2.
A confident Winscombe side was the girls’ next challenge, but with both teams failing to score in the first half it was all for the taking. The second half saw Sophie score a fantastic individual effort by darting through the Winscombe defence from her own half. 3 tries to nil the final score.
Home side Exeter Saracens 1st team were next to face a by now fearless Kings team. Probably their toughest game yet, both sides were evenly matched but Ruth broke the deadlock with a fine try with excellent support from Lana Sharmen, but when Exeter responded with a try of their own Kings girls started to look nervous. Olivia’s try in the last few seconds saved the day with kings winning 2 tries to 1.
If kingsbridge could now draw or beat Plymstock Albion Oaks in their final game, the festival would be theirs. The teams were evenly matched and the 2 tries apiece draw was a fair result.
Coaches Steve Jarvis, Rob Masters and Rich Seal thought the team put in an incredible performance in their first outing – the future looks bright for this new team!
