U11s keep marching on

Last Sunday Kingsbridge RFU under 11’s travelled to Topsham to play a double header with Topsham and Cullumpton. This was a significant fixture for Kingsbridge as Topsham were the only team to register a win against Kingsbridge last season, and they held us to a draw at the Landrover cup at the beginning of the season. This was also a very significant day for Topsham as it was the first match day after the tragic death of the member of their ladies team. All teams present took part in a minutes applause to pay their respects. Topsham fielded two teams so each of the three teams played 3 x 7.5 minute per half games.

For the first game Kingsbridge played Topsham Blues. Kingsbridge were by far the stronger team and held a vast majority of the possession. Some great tackling by Oliver Dudley and Jayden Bacon produced a fine flowing move from Kingsbridge which resulted in an equally fine try from Harry Rodwell. But for some bad luck and the odd shaped ball the score would have been considerably more.

Next was Topsham Greens. Whether this was Topsham’s weaker side, or the Kings were now warmed up, but this time the final score summed up Kingsbridge’s dominance. A great interception from Ben Walwyn opened the scoring. Then a fine move got the ball to Harry who steamed through for his second of the day. Some fine work in the rucks as usual by Tom Partridge and some fine support from Josh Perrett allowed Pip Burton Race to get on the score sheet. This was shortly followed by two fine try’s from Rhys Stevens and Joe Johnston.

For the final game against Cullumpton, Kingsbridge were now well into their stride. Great performances by the scrum half Fin Roberts,Tom Winzer and Joe Burner allowed two great try’s from Stan Gerrard, two from Max Ferguson, and a second of the day from Ben Walwyn. A momentary lapse in concentration allowed Cullumpton to breach the formidable Kingsbridge defence however that didn’t detract from a fine mornings Rugby.
